The power of the Israeli lobby and its influence on politicians, the media, universities and public opinion is well-known. But it wasn’t until Al Jazeera released its film, ‘Lobby – USA’, that concrete evidence of Israel’s undercover and illegal spying campaign of US citizens to exert its influence was exposed.
The four-part documentary was ready for release in October 2017 but the film was quickly censored after Qatar, which funds Al Jazeera, came under intense Israel lobby pressure not to air the film. In recent weeks, several sources, including the Electronic Intifada, have obtained and published full copies of this never-broadcast investigative report and Cafe Palestine will screen the first episode of the leaked film on 6 December!
Given that some of the groups featured in Al Jazeera’s documentary are also active in Brussels, we will also welcome David Cronin, journalist and political activist specialised in European politics, to discuss the working of the Israeli lobby in Europe, at EU institutional level and in Brussels, and its impact on the struggle for Palestinian rights. David will give a brief talk after the screening of the film, followed by an open Q&A and discussion.
The Café Palestine team looks forward to seeing you at Le Space
(Sleutelstraat 26 Rue de la Clé, 1000 Brussels), where our monthly events will take place.
More about the film /////
To get access to the Israel lobby’s inner workings, Al Jazeera’s undercover reporter, “Tony”, posed as a pro-Israel volunteer in Washington. The film exposes the efforts of the pro-Israel lobbyists to spy on, smear and intimidate US citizens who support Palestinian human rights, especially BDS – the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. It reveals, for the first time, how Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs is operating this effort in collusion with an extensive network of US-based organisations. On a positive note, while the film portrays the dangerous and cruel levels that the pro-Israeli lobby is willing to take, it also highlights and validates that the BDS movement is effective.
